Program Description

Samos has been famous for its wine production for centuries, and the island’s vineyards and winemaking traditions are an important part of its heritage. During this afternoon excursion, you will visit the Samos Wine Museum, which presents the story behind one of the island’s most distinctive local products.

The museum is housed in an impressive 19th-century stone building that originally operated as a private winery. In later years it also served as a warehouse and a cooperage workshop, and today it showcases the island’s rich winemaking heritage. Walking through its interiors, you will quickly sense the atmosphere of past times and understand how important wine production has been for the local community.

During the visit, you will discover the story of winemaking on Samos, presented through archival photographs, historical documents and numerous exhibits. The displays illustrate the cultivation of vineyards on mountain terraces, traditional grape harvesting and the methods used for pressing, fermenting and ageing the wine.

Inside the museum you will also see historic winemaking tools, old production machinery, laboratory instruments and cooperage equipment that were used for decades in the production of Samos wine. Particularly impressive are the enormous wooden vats that, until only a few decades ago, were used for fermentation and storage.

At the end of the visit, you will enjoy a tasting of four different wines from Samos, offering the chance to discover the characteristic aromas and flavours of the island’s wines. It is a pleasant way to experience a tradition that has been part of Samos for generations.

The order of visits and the programme may be subject to change.
