Program Description

Venture deep into antiquity and travel back in time almost two thousand years.

With an early morning departure from Naples, you’ll experience Pompeii at its calmest, before the most enormous crowds arrive. Your tour begins with priority entrance to the archaeological site, allowing you to step straight into the world of Ancient Rome without long waits. Accompanied by a local guide, you’ll enjoy an immersive 2.5-hour walking tour through a city buried in 79 AD by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius.

You will enter Pompeii through Porta Marina, one of the original city gates, and make your way to the Forum, once the political, religious, and commercial heart of the city. Surrounded by temples and public buildings, you’ll see the impressive Basilica, where legal and business matters were once conducted.

Strolling along Via dell’Abbondanza, Pompeii’s main street, you’ll pass ancient houses and shops and notice deep chariot tracks carved into the stone. The route then leads to the Theatre District, where culture and entertainment shape daily life. The open-air Large Theatre brings to life the performances once enjoyed by Roman audiences, while the nearby bath complex reveals the importance of relaxation and hygiene in Roman society. You will also visit a thermopolium, an ancient street food bar, and a pistrinum, or bakery, complete with millstones and ovens that once served freshly prepared food.

Next, you’ll step inside the elegant House of the Faun, one of Pompeii’s most luxurious villas, famous for its mosaics, including the renowned Alexander Mosaic. The tour concludes at the Macellum, the city’s former marketplace, and with a profoundly moving moment as you see the plaster casts of Pompeii’s victims - powerful reminders of lives suddenly interrupted by the eruption.

After the visit, you will return to Naples filled with unforgettable impressions.
