Levada Rabacal and 25 Fontes

Discover one of the most breathtaking hiking routes in Madeira and immerse yourself in the island’s lush green heart. The trail through Rabaçal and the famous 25 Fontes offers a unique experience, combining waterfalls, rich vegetation and the peaceful atmosphere of untouched nature.

Your journey begins in the Laurissilva Forest, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its wild beauty and remarkable biodiversity. From the very start, you will admire the scenic Rabaçal Valley, one of the most picturesque landscapes on the island, before heading towards the forest house.

After a short walk, you will reach the impressive Risco waterfall, cascading down steep cliffs and creating a truly spectacular view. After a short break at the viewpoint, You will continue along the levada trail, surrounded by dense greenery, the soothing sound of flowing water and the tranquillity of nature.

As you walk, you will discover the richness of local flora and experience the unique atmosphere of this part of the island. The trail leads you to the main highlight - the 25 Fontes lagoon, where numerous small waterfalls flow into a crystal-clear pool surrounded by lush ferns.

At the beginning of this section, you will encounter a short set of steps that may be slightly demanding, but the rest of the route is pleasant and allows you to fully enjoy the views. After spending time in this extraordinary place, you will return along the same path.

The route is approximately 13 km long, with a trekking time of around 4.5 hours. The difficulty level is medium, making it suitable for participants with a moderate level of fitness. Appropriate equipment is recommended - including comfortable clothing and trekking shoes.
