Program Description

Embark on an unforgettable adventure through some of Madeira’s most spectacular landscapes. This trekking experience combines breathtaking views, mountain challenges and close contact with nature - perfect for active travellers and hiking enthusiasts.

You will start at Pico do Areeiro (1818 m), the island’s third-highest peak, offering impressive panoramic views over the Atlantic and dramatic mountain ridges. From the very beginning, You will feel the unique atmosphere of this place as You head towards Miradouro do Ninho da Manta, a viewpoint revealing Madeira’s wild and rugged scenery.

The trail then leads towards Pedra Rija, where the route becomes more demanding and the adventure truly begins. With every step, the landscapes grow even more spectacular. Next, You will take on the famous “Stairway to Heaven” - a challenging yet rewarding climb that offers some of the most breathtaking views on the island.

After returning near Pico do Areeiro, You will continue along the PR3 Vereda do Burro trail towards Poço da Neve. From this unique viewpoint, You will admire the Funchal harbour area from a completely different perspective.

The final part of the route takes You through the lush landscapes of the Ecological Park of Funchal, where rugged mountain terrain blends with rich vegetation. It’s a perfect ending to an intense yet incredibly rewarding journey.

The route is approximately 7 km long, with a trekking time of around 4 hours. Due to its high difficulty level, this tour is recommended for participants in good physical condition. Appropriate equipment is required - including suitable clothing and trekking shoes.

The order of visits and the programme may be subject to change.
