Program Description

Discover the most beautiful parts of southern Mauritius during a full-day excursion through spectacular landscapes, sacred sites and fascinating natural wonders. This tour offers a perfect opportunity to admire volcanic formations, lush valleys and unique geological phenomena while learning more about the island’s culture and traditions.

The tour begins with a hotel pick-up followed by a drive towards Trou aux Cerfs, a dormant volcanic crater rising 605 metres above sea level. Formed more than two million years ago, this impressive crater is now covered with dense vegetation and has a small lake at its base. From here you can enjoy panoramic views of the central part of the island.

The next stop is Voiliers de l’Océan, where you will discover local craftsmanship and learn about the tradition of building detailed models of historic ships.

The journey then continues to Grand Bassin, also known as Ganga Talao – a sacred lake and one of the most important pilgrimage sites for the Hindu community of Mauritius. Surrounded by temples and statues of Hindu deities, this peaceful place located in the island’s highlands offers a unique insight into the spiritual side of Mauritius.

During the tour you will also travel through Black River Gorges National Park, the largest nature reserve on the island. A stop will be made at Black River Viewpoint, where you can admire breathtaking views of deep valleys, tropical forests and the region’s unique flora and fauna. A lunch break is planned during the day.

The adventure continues in the picturesque village of Chamarel, famous for some of the island’s most extraordinary natural attractions. Here you will see the impressive Chamarel Waterfall, which cascades nearly 90 metres down into a lush gorge, as well as the remarkable Seven-Coloured Earth – a rare geological formation created by the transformation of basalt lava, forming undulating dunes in shades of red, brown, violet and gold.

At the end of the tour you will visit La Rhumerie de Chamarel, one of the island’s best-known rum distilleries. You will learn about the production process of this traditional Mauritian spirit and enjoy a tasting of selected local varieties. After a day full of unforgettable experiences, you will return to your hotel.

The order of the visits and the programme may change.
