Program Description

Katowice, the heart of Silesia, is a dynamic center of culture, community, and politics. The city, which was granted city rights in 1865, has transformed itself from a key industrial center to a place where history meets modernity. Today, the industrial heritage is evident in the heart of the city, where the former Katowice mine has given way to the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the International Congress Center, and the modern Silesian Museum.

The tour begins with a meeting at the tower of the Warszawa II shaft, near the glass walls of the Silesian Museum building. Then, walk towards the "Spodek," a landmark of the city, passing the Silesian Insurgents Monument and Wojciech Korfanty Avenue on the way to the market square. The route then leads south to Miarki Square with its rich vegetation, passing the Monument to the September Scouts and 19th-century tenements. The program also includes a visit to the Archcathedral of Christ the King, which was visited by Pope John Paul II. Next, walk through the Silesian Parliament Square and admire the architecture of the Route of Modernism in Katowice. The tour ends on St. Mary's Street, where you can relax in the numerous restaurants and cafes overlooking St. Mary's Church.

Chosen excursion available subject to minimal number of 6 participants.

Subject to availability, the starting time of the walk can be adjusted according to the group’s preferences.
