Program Description

Our trip starts in the capital of the Algarve, the city of Faro. Here, we’ll stroll through the narrow streets and the squares until we reach the famous Village Arch - built by order of Bishop Francisco Gomes, who supervised the reconstruction of the city following the earthquake of 1755. Our first stop will be in Olhão, one of the oldest fishing villages in the Region. Here, you can enjoy a stroll along Ria Formosa and take in the beauty of this famous natural park, a habitat for hundreds of birds of many different species. You will also have time to savour some of the delicious cuisine the region has to offer, and to try the wonderful - and fresh! - fish and shellfish that the various restaurants in Olhão have on their menu. And we’ve kept the best for last: the charming city of Tavira. With the Gilão River running through it, Tavira is a looking glass into an Algarve of traditions, filled with character and, above all, beautiful. Among the points of interest, of note are the city’s castle and Santa Maria do Castelo Church, where you’ll see different styles of architecture, from Gothic to Manueline and even Baroque and Neoclassical. A must see is also the Republic Square, in the city centre. Located next to the river and the old Tavira bridge are the City Hall building and an amphitheater where shows are held.
