European Museum of Modern Art: Entry Ticket

If you feel like discovering art from a different perspective during your stay in Barcelona, visit the European Museum of Modern Art (MEAM). The museum focuses primarily on figurative and realist art, showcasing works that can be difficult to find in other contemporary art museums.

The museum is located in the El Born district, just a few steps from the Picasso Museum. It is housed in a historic palace rebuilt in 1791 by a textile merchant. In the 19th century, the building was divided into two parts when Calle de la Princesa was created, connecting Barcelona’s historic centre with the area around Ciutadella Park.

As you explore MEAM, you will discover different forms of figurative art. Its permanent collections include 21st-century contemporary art, 20th-century modern sculpture and 20th-century Catalan sculpture. The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions that complement its permanent collections.

After your visit, you can spend some more time in El Born - one of Barcelona’s most atmospheric neighbourhoods, filled with narrow streets, historic buildings and local cafés. It is a great place to continue your walk and soak up the atmosphere of the city’s historic centre.
