Program Description

A visit to Museo Casa Natal Picasso offers a unique opportunity to step into the place where the story of one of the greatest artists of the 20th century began. Just a short walk from Málaga Cathedral and around the corner from the Cervantes Theatre, you will discover the house where Pablo Picasso spent his early childhood.

It was here, in 1881, that the future genius was born. The building, dating back to 1861 and officially recognised as a heritage site in 1983, allows you to travel back in time and understand how deeply Málaga influenced Picasso’s personality and artistic vision. He lived here until the age of ten – and the memories of his childhood, the Mediterranean light and local traditions left a lasting mark on his work.

During your visit, you will explore nine themed rooms highlighting the family, social and cultural connections between Picasso and Málaga. You will see family memorabilia, selected artworks, a library, and a recreation of a 19th-century study belonging to his father – a painter and art teacher who guided Picasso’s very first artistic steps. The exhibition also presents themes that frequently appeared in his art – including bullfighting, doves and Mediterranean inspirations.

This is more than just a museum – it is a journey to the roots of creativity and imagination. If you would like to better understand Picasso’s work and experience the atmosphere of late 19th-century Málaga, this visit will be a truly inspiring experience.
