Program Description

Over 800 years of history, an extraordinary shape and mysterious "dragon's blood" - Drago Milenario is one of Tenerife's most recognisable symbols. This impressive dragon tree stands within the botanical gardens of Parque del Drago, where you'll also discover native plants of the Canary Islands and fascinating facts about the archipelago's nature and traditions.

The main attraction of Parque del Drago is the famous Drago Milenario, considered the oldest dragon tree in the world. Its age is estimated at around 800 years! During your visit, you'll get a close-up view of its distinctive trunk, sprawling, twisted branches and dense canopy of pointed leaves. This remarkable tree has held a special place in the culture of the Canary Islands for centuries.

There's also a fascinating story behind the tree. Dragon trees produce a red resin known as "dragon's blood", which was traditionally used for medicinal purposes and as a natural dye. Its intense colour and unusual properties have inspired many legends over the centuries.

After admiring Drago Milenario, you'll enjoy a walk through the botanical gardens of Parque del Drago, covering more than three hectares. Surrounded by lush greenery, you'll discover native plant species of the Canary Islands, along with a variety of flowers, cacti and succulents. It's a wonderful opportunity to appreciate the diversity of local flora and discover plants characteristic of the region.

The park also features exhibitions dedicated to the natural history and traditions of the Canary Islands. These displays offer an insight into the archipelago's natural heritage and the customs of its inhabitants.

A visit to Parque del Drago combines the chance to see one of Tenerife's most iconic natural landmarks with a relaxing stroll through beautiful Canarian gardens.
