Program Description
Set off on an afternoon journey along the Athens Riviera and spend the evening at one of the most spectacularly located temples of ancient Greece. At Cape Sounion, see the monumental Temple of Poseidon, hear stories and legends connected with the site, and watch the sunset over the Aegean Sea.
Travel along the coast and see some of Athens' most distinctive seaside suburbs. The route passes the Hellinikon Olympic complex, Glyfada, Vouliagmeni and Varkiza, with views of the Saronic Gulf along the way. Your guide will share stories about the history of the region and its significance in Greek mythology.
At Cape Sounion, you'll have time to explore the Temple of Poseidon at your own pace. Perched on a rocky hill, the temple offers impressive views over the Aegean Sea, with several nearby islands visible on a clear day. One of the surviving columns also bears graffiti attributed to Lord Byron, who visited the site in the early 19th century.
The highlight of the tour is the sunset over the Aegean Sea. Watch as the changing light transforms the temple and surrounding landscape, creating a memorable setting for photos and a peaceful end to the day.
After sunset, return to Athens with memories of ancient history, Greek mythology and spectacular coastal scenery.
