Program Description
Discover the world of cinema from a completely different perspective during a visit to the Museu del Cinema in Girona. This is your chance to step back to a time when moving images were only beginning to fascinate audiences and see how the art of film developed long before modern cameras appeared.
At the heart of the museum is the Tomàs Mallol Collection, created by the Catalan filmmaker and passionate cinema enthusiast. The collection includes more than 20,000 items related to the history of film, giving you a fascinating insight into the origins of cinema and the devices that amazed audiences over the years.
As you explore the museum, you will discover how the illusion of moving images was created before the invention of film cameras. You will see early optical devices, photography exhibits and examples of Chinese shadow theatre, which played an important role in the development of visual entertainment.
You will also learn about the groundbreaking work of the Lumière brothers, pioneers of early cinema, as well as the legacy of Charlie Chaplin, one of the most recognisable figures of the silent film era. The Museu del Cinema offers a journey through the evolution of moving images, from the earliest visual experiments to the birth of cinema as we know it today.
