Program Description
Step aboard the legendary USS IOWA and discover the history of one of America's most famous battleships. Launched in 1942, the ship served during World War II and the Korean War and is now permanently moored at the LA Waterfront, where it is home to the National Museum of the Surface Navy.
During your self-guided visit, explore 7 decks and more than 75 exhibits dedicated to the ship's history and the everyday lives of its crew. Step inside authentic sailor spaces, visit the navigation bridge and get an up-close look at the enormous 16-inch guns, one of the USS IOWA's most impressive features.
One of the highlights is the Life of a Sailor Experience, an immersive exhibition offering a closer look at daily life aboard the battleship. Interactive displays, personal stories from sailors and preserved crew spaces provide an engaging insight into what it was like to serve aboard this iconic vessel.
Younger visitors can take part in the Vicky the Ship's Dog scavenger hunt, turning the visit into a fun family experience. History enthusiasts can also choose to upgrade to an optional guided behind-the-scenes tour, offering access to areas beyond the standard visitor route.
Allow approximately 2-3 hours to explore the Battleship IOWA Museum. Every admission also supports the non-profit organisation responsible for preserving this National Historic Landmark for future generations.
The order of visits and the programme may be subject to change.
